What is the best deal if you need to buy new tires?

Should you buy the cheapest tires and add a tire protection plan, or buy tires that are more expensive but have the tire protection plan included in the price?
Picture

Big O Tires always has some kind of tire sale.  All stores that sell tires do.

Sale prices catch our eye and often we automatically think that we're going to save money.

BIg O sells tires from multiple manufacturers as well as their own brand.

A major difference between their own brand and the other brands they sell is something known as a Tire Protection Plan.

This project involves comparing tire prices and determining which deal is going to cost less after a few years.

For example, Big O sells 4 Goodyear tires for $624.99.

But, that price *does not* include a Tire Protection Plan.

What is a Tire Protection Plan and why do I need it??

The cost of 4 Big O tires  is $917.57

Recall that the cost of Goodyear tires is only $624.99

But, the Big O tires price *DOES*  include the Tire Protection Plan.

$624.99 versus $917.57 seems like an easy choice...but....

You need to take care of new tires by having them Balanced and Rotated at least once a year

Picture

Big O Charges $80 to have all 4 Tires Balanced and Rotated.

This is included in the cost of the Big O tires, but not for the Goodyear Wrangler tires.

You are going to determine whether paying less up front for Goodyear tires is worth it in the long run.

Is there a number of years when buying the Big O tires makes more sense than buying the Goodyear Wrangler tires because you don't have to pay for the annual Balance and Rotation?

This is known as the Break Even point.
